The Rule of Six

On Tuesday 15th September 2020 the Phoenix Lodge, No. 9963 once again rose from the ashes.

In accordance with the present social restrictions, and following guidance from UGLE with regard to the rule of six, the Lodge proved to be innovative during difficult times. Six brethren met at the Sailmakers Arms in the Old Town of Hull, to form a quorum and conducted the lodge business around a single table, harking back to masonry as it was 200 years ago. The Lodge was led by its Worshipful Master, W. Bro Ian Parkinson, supported by W. Bro Alexander McCallum PPGStB (Acting SW), W. Bro Mark Richardson ProvGSD (Acting JW), Bro Robert Atkinson (Secretary), W. Bro Antonio J.R. Jimenez (Acting Tyler) and Bro. Christopher J Fuller (JD). The Lodge business was conducted at what was a very unique meeting at an already unique lodge.

Following the closure of the Lodge a presentation was given via Zoom by the Lodge’s IPM, W. Bro James E.G. Steele ProvGPurs, on the history of the old Phoenix Lodge of Hull No 368, which had been consecrated in 1817 and burned brightly before it fell into dormancy and closed completely in 1834. The presentation was well received by those who attended. Several prospective candidates attended the zoom meeting as did brethren from around the world with one brother attending all the way from Mauritius.

A thoroughly enjoyable experience was held by all, which was concluded by W. Bro. Eddie Wildman PGOrg raising a glass and wishing the brethren well.
